DAYTONA BEACH , Fla. (July 21, 2005) — Quickly following a tremendous response to the company’s initial launch in Daytona Beach six months ago, Clearwire will open a new retail location Saturday on International Speedway Boulevard in the Carabba's shopping center. The company will also expand its service area when it officially launches its wireless broadband Internet service to Ormond by the Sea.
Clearwire is hosting a community celebration at its new location Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The company will host a live WHOG-FM 95.7 radio remote at the store, and local residents are invited to come, demo Clearwire’s service and register to win an Apple IPOD mini. Frappes Restaurant will provide food and beverages.
“We are constantly looking for opportunities to expand our coverage area and provide better options to area residents looking for high-speed Internet solutions,” said Eileen Maxwell, Clearwire’s Daytona Beach market manager. “Now with the opening of our retail location and expansion of coverage in Ormond by the Sea customers can get high-speed internet access for their home or small business more simply and more affordably than previously possible with traditional broadband options.”
Demand for Clearwire service in Daytona Beach has been brisk. Clearwire offers more than 47,000 residents and small businesses access to the Internet via their wireless network, and with the addition of the Ormond by the Sea tower and the new retail location, that number will continue to increase.
“We’ve already heard so many great stories about how Clearwire is changing the way people live and work,” said Maxwell. “We have realtors who access their email and listings while showing homes, small business owners who cut their Internet costs in half by taking their Clearwire modem with them to work in the morning and home with them at night, and homeowners who enjoy moving their service from room to room in their home wherever there’s an electrical outlet.”
Clearwire deploys a next-generation, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) technology that allows customers to connect to the Internet via a signal sent across the airwaves rather than across wires. The company sends the signal from a transmitter to a specially developed receiver box that plugs into the customer’s computer instead of connecting to traditional coaxial cable or telephone wires. Customers simply plug the receiver into an electrical outlet and into their computer to gain high-speed access to the Internet from any room in their home or take it with them to locations outside their home or office throughout the Clearwire coverage area.
In keeping with the company’s philosophy of making the Internet simple, customers have several options to purchase Clearwire service. They can visit one of several authorized retailers in the area, visit Clearwire’s sales center at 2200 West International Speedway Blvd., call toll free at 888-CLEARWIRE or go online to clearwire.com.
About Clearwire
Clearwire is a provider of reliable, wireless, high-speed broadband
Internet service to consumers and small businesses. Clearwire is utilizing
next-generation, non-line-of-sight wireless technology, developed by its
subsidiary company NextNet Wireless, to connect customers to the Internet
using radio spectrum, thus eliminating the confines of traditional cable
or phone wiring. The tower transmits radio signals from a base site to a
small, wireless modem the size of a paperback book, which easily connects
a user’s computer to the Internet. For more information, visit
